Each night, as we drop into sleep, we open to the mystery of dreams.
We dream of flying through a childhood home, of losing teeth, of forgetting to feed a pet. For most of us, uninitiated into the messages, meaning and invitations of dreams, we wake the next morning and go about our waking moments, as the wisps of these images dive back into our subconscious minds.
But our dreams are deeply powerful messengers, beckoning us into a more awakened relationship to our Souls, and journeying with us on the path of becoming.
We dream of birds held in cages until we're ready to transform addiction.
We dream of tornadoes until we're ready to let rage leave our lips.
We dream of houses as we realize the expansive nature of our Soul.
We dream through tunnels and passageways and mountains
of butterflies and foxes and bears
of oceans and storms and rivers
of airplanes and of longing--
until we remember that the dreams are the language and the longing of the Soul,
and we find our way back home.
Dreaming Ourselves Awake, co-created and co-held with Richard Wade Willis, will open a space for you to reclaim your capacity to navigate the landscape of your inner world. We will walk with you through archetypes and symbols, through mythology and mountains, through houses and visions and tunnels. Together, we will retrace the footprints in our dreams to remember how the Soul speaks.
As lifelong dreamers and journeyers, this is a offering straight from our hearts. And an invitation to begin to dream the world anew with us-- from the place where the inside and outside become One.
Join us for Dreaming Ourselves Awake in the fall of 2022, in partnership with Soltara Healing Center and the Maloca.
We will gather Tuesday evenings at 2pm HST / 5pm PST/ 8pm EST from August 30 - October 25, with a break week on September 27. If Thursdays work better for you, we also have a second cohort available on Thursdays at 2pm HST / 8pm EST.
A despacho ceremony with our teacher from Qeros, Peru, will be offered Week 1, and will be optional. Classes will be recorded in case of absence. All classes will be run through Zoom online gatherings + supported by an online platform for community connection.
This online course is open to any persons, regardless of race, gender, orientation, age , religious or spiritual affiliation. Cohort is limited to 14.
Each class will run 2-2.5 hours, including an introduction of a common shamanic /psychological dream archetype and experiential tools for interacting with this vision. Every week includes 60-75 minutes of dream circle, a place where we journey together to explore our personal and collective dreams.
Monica Applegate, Spring 2020
Each class includes an exploration of a dream archetype that may arise across the cultures of Earth, and the ways in which it presents in our personal psyche.
Each class includes practices for interacting with your dreams and making meaning through creativity, meditation, dialogue-- ways that we bring the dream world to Life.
Each class contains a rich and spacious dream circle, where we explore and expand the dream of two members of the class. Together, we sift through its depth, and receive the medicine that the dream offers.

Opening + the Power of Dream Circle
As we open Dreaming Ourselves Awake, we will explore a framework for dreamwork, name guideposts on the path, and begin the journey. We will dive into the medicine of Dream Circle, the core component of our time together, and learn the context and framework for exploring dreams communally in order to open their full medicine. We will set clear expectations for this container, and how we create safe passage into dreams.
Despacho Ceremony with Don Agostine
For the last hour of our week one gathering, we will join in ceremony with Don Agostine of Qeros, Peru, who will offer despacho for a safe and fruitful passage through the dream world. Despacho is an ancient ceremony indigenous to Peru, and offers food, sweets, flowers and prayers to the Earth, in thanks for her life and in prayer for health, safety, protection and clarity.
This last hour will be optional.
The Shadow
This week, we will begin to explore the archetype of the shadow, which often chases us and haunts our dreams. We'll dialogue with partners to explore the shadow's voice and re-enter the dreamscape to speak with it. In the second half of class, we will begin our first dream circle, and practice sharing, opening, exploring and receiving the medicine of those dreaming with us in community.
Birth + Death
This week, we'll open with the dream portals to birth + death, and the often dramatic ways these energies present in the visual inner landscape. We'll work with a practice of speaking aloud what wants to die. Lastly, we'll again open the sacred space of dream circle, and collectively explore the dreams arising for members of the group.
Anima / Animus - Union
This week, we'll open to the Jungian concept of the Anima + Animus, the inner archetypes of the 'other' gender inside our Souls. We'll explore longing and union and work with poetry to open the dreams. Then, we'll dive into another week of dream circle, practicing the art of opening, being with, and holding space for our own (and others) dreams.
The Self
This week, we'll open to the archetype of the Self, the whole human soul. Through storytelling, body work, and art creation, we'll explore the ways our Selves arise in dreams. And we'll continue with our collaborative dream exploration process in dream circle, where we might notice our deepening capacity to see the power of our dreams and work with their medicine.
The Healing Dreams
In week six, we'll open up to the energies and visions of healing dreams, and the ways in which we can witness our own growth and integration through the dream space. We'll work with felt sense and collage as a way to explore, and end with our regular group dream practice, dream circle. By week six, we are noticing even deeper ability to be with, open, and receive from our dreams.
Allies + Medicine Maps
In week seven, we'll begin to explore all of the allies who show up in the dream space-- animals, plants, guides and our wise old man and medicine woman, who indicate deepening awareness of our Souls in waking and sleeping realms. In the last hours, we'll finish with our last group dream circle, opening and weaving the medicine of two more dreams and what they offer our group.
Dream Creations
In week eight, our group will review and replay all that we have received through our journey into the dreamworld, and we will present a piece of art or dialogue or writing, which we used to open up the lines of dialogue between our waking selves and dreaming souls. We'll close out our time together by reflecting on our expanded capacity to learn from our own dreams, and giving thanks for this space and time together.
Summer 2020 Course Participant
As a part of this journey, we will be holding Despacho (offering) ceremony with our teacher Don Agostine, in Qeros, Peru, who will offer safe passage for us into the dream world, and hold us in prayer for the two months we journey.
As part of Dreaming Ourselves Awake, you will receive a dreaming plant tincture, handmade of two sacred plants to the Q'ero people. These two plants open, clarify and balance the masculine and feminine in the dream space.
As part of Dreaming Ourselves Awake, you will have access to a guide full of books, plants, tools and supports for our journey into the dream world. Each week, you'll receive a handout with space to journal what inspiration and remembrance you receive.
Richard Wade Willis serves his community through plant medicine facilitation, integration support, and shamanic energy medicine practices. Studying psychology and dream work at Sonoma State University has enabled him to layer western approaches with a rich experiential path of study in the Shipibo and Q’ero shamanic traditions. Dreams have been a deeply meaningful part of his experience from early-on, and acquiring the tools and skills to navigate them has opened many doorways to personal healing and awareness along his path. The worlds of plants, indigenous wisdom traditions, somatic awareness, psycho-spiritual integration, and an intimate understanding of the Western psyche are woven carefully into his practice. He will encourage you to meet all aspects of yourself with honesty, courage, and loving presence. He feels deeply honored to share with you in the Sacred space of dreams and plant allies.
Jane Mayer is a multi-faceted healer and artist who delights in supporting humans and Earth in coming fully alive. She has learned with indigenous wisdom keepers in the mountains of Peru, the Amazon, the Hawaiian Islands, and the forests of Ireland, alongside various lineages of devoted teachers in the Western world. An active and psychic dreamer from a very young age, her gifts dramatically opened as she began dieting plants in the Shipibo tradition. Today, she orients others to their deeper nature and innate gifts with sound, myth, plant, energy medicine and somatic integration. She offers healing sessions, ceremony, poetry and music around the world. She is tickled pink to be diving into this space with a group of fellow dream travelers, and those devoted to the restoration and awakening of the Mystery inside their very bodies.

"Ondinnock (a Mohawk word) is 'the secret wish of the soul, especially as revealed in dreams.' In the villages of the people among whom Island Woman was born, dream-sharing was one of the most important community rituals. Dreams were scanned for clues for the future and for messages from the Spirit World. Above all, dreams were studied as soul talk. It was the duty of the community to gather round a dreamer and help to discern the wishes of the soul as revealed in a dream, and then to take action to honor those wishes."
